Description

Spode hand painted and gilded stand for soup tureen. Item 4870.An attractive piece in its own right, this Spode hand painted and gilded porcelain stand would be the underdish for a large soup tureen. Around the rim are three moulded sprays of flowers left in the white, and between them are a further three hand painted sprays. There is also a larger spray to the centre. To finish it all off, there is a very thin gilt line around the edge, inside a wider gilt line. The pattern is number 2248, which was introduced in around 1816. The diameter is 345 mm (13.5 inches), it stands 45 mm (1.75 inches) high and weighs 1.66 kgs (just over 3.5 pounds). There is some very, very faint wear to the gilding and four short, shallow firing cracks to the face, as can be seen in the photos. It would date from around 1820.
